The Public Works Director is the administrative head of which is responsible for the efficient operation of the Water department, Sewer, Utility Customer Service, Street / Traffic Maintenance, Solid Waste / Wastewater Services, and Parks department.

Public Works Divisions

The Public Works Department consists of the following divisions:

  • Sewer – Responsible for sewer line maintenance, stops and repairs

  • Streets – Responsible for street repair and alley maintenance

  • Wastewater Treatment Plant – Responsible for proper treatment of all wastewater received

  • Water Lines – Responsible for providing safe potable water for all residents of the city

  • Cemetery – Responsible for maintenance of cemetery grounds

  • City Park – Responsible for park maintenance, such as mowing, watering, emptying garbage cans

After Hours Emergencies

If you have an after-hours emergency relating to a water leak or sewer stop, please call the Garza County Sheriff’s office at 806-495-3595. They will contact a city employee on call.

The Terrace Cemetery was established in the 1800’s and it employs one full-time employee and additional seasonal employees through the summer months to ensure the operations of the office and maintenance of the grounds. 

Cemetery Cost

The purchase price for each lot / rite is $600.

A recording fee of $25 is required for every deed.

There are twelve lots / rites to a plot. They can be purchased individually or by lots. If you are purchasing more than 1 lot / rite, then a payment plan may be arranged, but will require a deposit of $200.

Once the payment plan is initiated, then a payment will be required each month until the lot/rite is paid in full. The deed will then be issued after the purchase price has been paid in full.

Individual Responsibilities

  • No concrete or rockwork can begin until the lot / rite is fully paid and a deed is issued.

  • A permit must be obtained from the city before any concrete work is performed or a headstone is placed.

  • No trees or shrubs shall be planted by an individual; the City may remove any volunteer trees and shrubs

  • The speed limit is 5 miles per hour

  • The city is not responsible for the safekeeping of anything or article erected or placed at any grave site.

  • Watering at the cemetery will be cut off at daylight savings time in the fall and will be turned back on at daylight savings time in the spring, if the danger of freezing has passed. The water is provided free of charge. Only the area that you intend to take care of should be watered.

  • Funeral designs and floral pieces will be removed from graves when they become unsightly or wilted. Any that are to be retained by the family must be removed by the beginning of the 4th day after interment by the lot owner or family.

Operations

The Post landfill is the central receiving point for solid waste generated by the City of Post. The operation of the sanitary landfill is permitted by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The landfill must operate in compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Rules and Regulations, and the approved site operating plan.

Waste Types

The landfill accepts both Type I and Type IV wastes.

  • Type I Waste - Municipal solid waste includes: trash, garbage, plastic, cardboard

  • Type IV Waste - Demolition waste includes: sheet rock, wood, shingles, glass

Items too large for the dumpster must be hauled to the landfill

It is the discretion of the City of Post to accept or reject any of the materials brought to the gate of the City landfill.

Authorized Persons

Persons authorized to dispose of waste at the facility include:

  • Citizens and businesses in the city, with a recent water bill receipt

  • Citizens and businesses in the rural areas of Garza county, with proof of residency.

Individual Payments

The fees for individual loads of waste taken to the landfill must be paid at City Hall, located at:

  • 105 East Main Street

Contractor Payments

A contractor may choose to pay the required fees either by the load as described below or set up an account with the city if he will be hauling waste to the landfill on a regular basis.

Once the load is paid for at city hall, the contractor will receive a receipt for the payment, which will need to be shown at the landfill gate.

If the contractor chose to set up an account, he will receive a permit pass from the city, which will need to be shown at the landfill gate.

Type 1 - Municipal Solid Waste

  • Truck, pickup, or trailers up to 8' in length — $15 per load

  • Trailers 8' to 16' length — $25 per load

  • Trailers over 16' — $35 per load

  • Trash trailers — $55 per load

  • Dump truck up to 8 yards — $45 per load

  • Dump truck, 8 to 14 yards — $55 per load

  • 20 yard containers — $65 per load

  • 30 yard containers — $75 per load

  • 40 yard containers — $85 per load

  • Trash trucks up to 3 tons — $75 per load

  • Trash trucks 3 to 6 tons — $100 per load

Type 4 - Shingles

  • Truck, pickup, or trailers up to 8 — '$25 per load

  • Trailers 8' to 16' in length — $50 per load

  • Trailers over 16' — $60 per load

  • Dump truck or trailers up to 8 yards — $75 per load

  • Dump trucks or trailers 8 to 14 yards — $90 per load

Type 4 - Demolition Waste

  • Truck, pickup, or trailers up to 8' in length — $10 per load

  • Trailers 8' to 16' length — $20 per load

  • Trailers over 16' — $30 per load

  • Dump truck up to 8 yards — $45 per load

  • Dump truck, 8 to 14 yards — $60 per load

Metal & Other Recyclables

The City reserves the right to refuse tires that may be too large or may be unsuitable for recycling or other readily available disposal.
